Juventus and Atletico Madrid

Juventus and Atletico Madrid face each other at the Allianz Stadium in one of the derbies of the Champions League group stage this week. We will take a look at this match in our Champions League predictions for today.

Juventus are the current leader in this group with 10 points, but Atletico Madrid are behind with just 3 points less. Juve can officially win this group if they beat Atletico on Tuesday, so the motivation is here for the Old Lady. We expect to see Maurizio Sarri putting his best team on the pitch against Atletico.

Juventus’ recent form is good – five wins from five games played in all competitions. Clearly the new manager Maurizio Sarri is still trying to make the team play in the way he wants, so it’s a slow process. But the Bianconeri are leading both in the Serie A and the Champions League, so Sarri could be happy with this.

During the weekend Juventus played a great game against Atalanta in Bergamo, winning it with 3-1. Without Cristiano Ronaldo, Juve played with Gonzalo Higuain Paulo Dybala upfront. Higuain scored twice, while Dybala added one more.

Atletico Madrid lost their previous game in the competition. Diego Simeone’s boys faced Bayer Leverkusen at the BayArena, but suffered a 1-2 defeat. Thomas Partey was unlucky to score himself an own goal, while Alvaro Morata’s goal in the last seconds was far from enough for the Spanish side.

During the weekend Atletico dissapointed their fans with a 1-1 draw with Granada in La Liga. Renan Lodi opened the score for Atleti, but German Sanchez equalised for the hosts. The good news for Atletico was that Joao Felix returned on the pitch after an ankle injury.

In our Champions League predictions for today we believe that Juventus are favourites to win this game against Atletico Madrid and win the group as well. Atletico are a little bit shaky this season, so at the Allianz Stadium they are underdogs.
