Freiburg and Union Berlin

The two Bundesliga sides Freiburg and Union Berlin face each other at the Schwarzwald-Stadion in a match from the second round of the DFB Pokal. It’s a good moment to take a look at this fixture in our soccer matches tomorrow. Let’s begin!

Freiburg didn’t have it easy in the first round of the competition. Christian Streich’s team visited Magdeburg, but needed extra time in order to prevail. Gian Luca Waldschmidt scored the only goal in the game in the 93th minute after an assist from Brandon Borello.

This season is going amazingly good for Freiburg so far. Surprisingly for all of us, right now Freiburg are second in the Bundesliga standings, being just one point behind the leader and champion Bayern Munich. Lately they were in a run of few consecutive games without a win, but on Saturday Freiburg got back on the winning road. They hosted one of the league’s strongest teams RB Leipzig and secured a 2-1 win. Nicolas Hofler and Nils Petersen scored for the hosts.

Union Berlin are also a Bundesliga side at the moment, being one of the newcomers in the elite division. But unlike Freiburg, Unior are currently 15th in the league with 7 points, being very close to the relegation zone. They have won just two of their Bundesliga games so far.

In the first round of the DFB Pokal Union Berlin achieved an exciting 6-0 win during their visit to Germania Halberstadt. It was a pure spectacle by Urs Fischer’s team. Six different players scored in this game – Schlotterbeck, Andersson, Lenz, Mees, Andrich and Ujah.

Of course, now we can’t expect Union Berlin to do the same against Freiburg – the differences in terms of quality are very serious. If we believe current form and performance, plus home ground advantage, Freiburg are a huge favourite on Tuesday.
